brandon-huebner-maritime-history-podcast-boat-radio-profileEach week Brandon Huebner presents a new chapter in his chronological history of humanity’s relationship with the sea. The Maritime History Programme is a narrative look at the development of boat and sail technology, trade, exploration, economics, and the links between the ocean and the development of society and culture throughout history. All of these things become quite fascinating when viewed through the lens of maritime history.
Beginning in distant prehistory, the programme progresses to examine, chronologically, the maritime histories of Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indus River Valley, the eastern Mediterranean, and the Aegean. Archaeology, literature, and other disciplines all contribute to a comprehensive look at what we know about the oldest of sailors and merchants, even pirates and explorers. Each week the programme will continue to move forward in time, with upcoming focus on the naval exploits of Greece, Rome, and the development of Iron Age maritime technology.
The programme saw its start as the Maritime History Podcast in August 2014, and episodes continue to be released in conjunction with the podcast. There is a wealth of additional material at the podcast website, including source lists, timelines, maps, images, and other information.
